Our artistic director came to the fore in the fields of design, video art and experimental cinema in 1969. His first films – Tatuaje (1976), Bilbao (1977), Caniche (1978) – were provocative and subversive fantasies about the contemporary world. At the beginning of the eighties he shot Reborn (1981) in partnership with some of the big names of the film industry of the United States. He then went on to direct a number of successful feature films: Lola (1985), Las Edades de Lulu (1990), Bámbola (1996), Volavérunt (1999), Yo soy la Juani (2006) and most recently Di.Di Hollywood (2010) starring Elsa Patacki and Peter Coyote.
Some are mere film directors but Bigas Luna is on another level. He experiments with new audiovisual formats and promotes multidisciplinary projects that explore themes that concern the source of things, the body, food.
His films Jamón, Jamón (1992), Huevos de Oro (1993) and La Teta i la Lluna (1994) make up his Iberian trilogy.
Fetishist, hedonistic, amusing and poetic, they are the precursors to the Cabaret Ibérico.
